ATTACK ON EMIRS: We Have Recovered The Body Of The Emir Of Gwoza – DHQ

Major General Chris Olukolade

According to the press release by DHQ Director of Defence Information, Maj.Gen. Chris Olukolade, the body of the Emir of Gwoza, Alhaji Idrisa Timta, was recovered. The statement, however, did not give details on the reason of Emir's death, whether it was a heart attack or the death from a bullet.

Olukolade revealed that troops stationed in Garkida, Adamawa State, were the first to arrive and to repel the attack on the convoy, which was on its way to Gombe State for the burial of the late Emir, Shehu Abubakar.
He further confirmed that the Emirs of Uba and Askira, present in the same convoy during the attack, were safe.

It would be noted that the actions of Boko Haram Islamists, which targeted the three traditional rulers, were tagged as the ‘declaration of war’ by Babangida Aliyu-led Northern States Governors Forum.

The security operatives have embarked on aggressive patrols along the entire route. The troops intend to search for, apprehend or neutralise the fleeing groups of terrorists in order to make the area safe.

The statement further revealed that more raids are being made by troops of the Special Task Force (STF) operating in the north-central part of the country, in particular, Jos South and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas and Bukuru. The operatives search for camps and criminals’ hideouts.
The operation has led to the arrest of 23 members of armed gangs terrorizing the local communities. One of the suspects used to be a hard drugs supplier. All of them are currently undergoing preliminary investigation before they will be handed over to appropriate prosecuting agency.

The operation in Plateau states became necessary following the rising wave of violence in this states, with multiple attacks registered over the past two weeks. The most bloody of them, twin bomb blast at Jos Terminus market on May 20, claimed over 78 lives, as reported by the state government.
